Sept. 14, 2008

Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey squad suffered an 8-0 loss to No. 4 Iowa on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-4 on the season, while the Hawkeyes moved to 4-2 overall.

Pacific came out of the gate with good effort and intensity as the Tigers earned the first shot of the game. Sophomore forward Rachel Taylor (Southampton, N.Y.) broke down the right side of the field on a counter-attack and fired a shot toward the goal in the second minute of play. Unfortunately Taylor's shot sailed wide left.

A flurry of Iowa offense ensued, the Hawkeyes took six shots and drew four penalty corners, but the Pacific defense held strong, keeping the game scoreless. With just over nine minutes gone in the contest, the Tigers earned their best scoring chance, firing off three shots and drawing two penalty corners. Junior Kim Keyawa (Chico, Calif.) and senior Ashley Niccum (Simi Valley, Calif.) were denied by Iowa goalkeeper, Lissa Munley, and a second shot from Niccum sailed wide.

Seemingly energized by escaping the Tigers' first few attacks, Iowa notched six goals in the final 25 minutes of the first period and went on to take the game 8-0.

Caitlin McCurdy led the Hawkeyes with three goals, while Roz Ellis notched three assists.

In the contest, Iowa out shot Pacific, 34-5 and held a 17-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 18 as the Tigers face Indiana in a neutral site contest at Miami (Ohio) at 12 p.m. (ET).
