The Pacific field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the California Golden Bears on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Brookside Field in the Tigers' home opener.
The defeat dropped the Tigers to 0-1 on the season, while Cal starts out 1-0.
Cal scored the first goal of the game on a penalty shot by Ashley Glosz 11 minutes into the second half to take a 1-0 lead. The Bears scored again with 19:05 remaining in the game when Katie Knoche scored off of a shot deflected by Tiger goalkeeper Christina Niccum (Simi Valley, Calif.). Cal added a third goal with 14:38 left in the game when Katie Knoche scored her second goal off of a penalty corner. Natalie Nurnberg and Andrea Lo assisted on the final goal.
The Tigers were out-shot 18-2 by the Bears. Senior Erica Nestle (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, Pa.) each had a shot for the Tigers, but both were stopped by Cal goalkeeper Kelly Knoche.
Cal took a total of nine penalty corners, while the Tigers had five.
The Tigers will return to action next Friday, Sept. 5 at Kent State. The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
