Pacific Falls To Cal State Northridge, 10-3

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific dropped a 10-3 decision to Cal State Northridge on Saturday, May 17 at Klein Family Field. The Tigers fall to 12-38, 4-19 in Big West Conference play, while the Matadors improve to 23-29, 7-13 in league games.

The Matadors took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run to left field by Ryan Pineda. The Tigers evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on the fifth home run of the year by junior Mike McKeever.

Cal State Northridge struck for four more runs in the top of the third inning, scoring on RBI singles by T.S. Reed and Dominic D'Anna, and a two-run home run by Pineda. The Matadors added another couple of runs in the fourth on RBI singles from John Parham and Reed to take a 7-1 lead.

The Tigers got back a run in the fifth on an RBI ground out by senior Brett Manning (Boulder, Colo.) to cut the lead to 7-2.

The Matadors picked up an insurance run in the seventh inning and two in the ninth to make it 10-2. The Tigers scored in the ninth on an RBI double by senior John Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) to cap the scoring.

Tiger starter Mark McCain (Dallas, Texas) gave up seven runs in 3 1-3 innings, falling to 1-5 on the season. Junior Cole Akins (Seattle, Wash.) pitched 5 1-3 innings in relief, allowing one earned run.

Matador starter Phil Hann (4-5) limited the Tigers to six hits and two runs in eight innings of work. P.J. Rousey gave up a run in one inning of work to close it out.

McKeever led the Tigers with two hits, a couple of runs and an RBI. Pineda was 5-for-5 for the Matadors, scoring three times and driving in three runs.

The Tigers close out their home schedule with Senior Day against Cal State Northridge on Sunday, May 18 with a 1:00 p.m. game at Klein Family Field.
