April 6, 2008

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team suffered a 12-2 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Apr. 6 in the rubber game of the three game set between the two teams.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-22 on the season and 1-5 in Big West Conference play. UC Santa Barbara moved to 21-9 overall and 5-1 in conference.

Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, the Tigers tied things up in the bottom half of the third. Senior Noah St. Urbain (Stockton, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk to start the inning. Two outs later, St. Urbain stole second, then junior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) blooped a single down the right field line to tie the game at 1-1.

Unfortunately the Gauchos reclaimed the lead with one run in the fourth, then plated two in the fifth to chase Pacific starter, junior Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.).

Pacific senior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) pulled the Tigers closer in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run over the right field wall to make it 4-2. It was Ching's second home run of the season and second in the series.

That, however, was the end of the Tigers' offense and UC Santa Barbara tacked on eight runs in the final three innings to take the game, 12-2.

Centanni (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits, three hit batters and a walk.

UC Santa Barbara's Chuck Huggins (6-1) earned his sixth win of the season by limiting the Tigers to two runs on three hits and a walk in seven innings.

Oliveira led Pacific's offense with two of the Tigers' four hits and an RBI.

Pacific returns to the diamond on Tuesday, Apr. 8 as the Tigers host Nevada at 6 p.m. in Klein Family Field.
