Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team fell to No. 1 UCLA on April 6 by a score of 13-6 on the road in Los Angeles, Calif. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 4-22 on the season overall and 0-11 in MPSF action, while the Bruins remained perfect on the year and improved to 23-0 overall and 9-0 in MPSF contests with the win.
Although the top ranked Bruins jumped out to an early lead in the game when UCLA's Jillian Kraus scored just 18 seconds into the contest, the Tigers responded quickly when Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) netted a goal of her own to tie it up in the first minute of action. After that, however, UCLA would score four more early goals to go into the second quarter up 5-1.
In the second period, scoring was at a premium as both teams combined for a total of only three goals to head into the break. Although the Tigers were within five at the half, the Bruins came back from the break outscoring the Tigers by a 5-0 margin. It wasn't until the fourth quarter when the Tigers would score the other four of their six total goals on the day.
McConnell finished the afternoon with a total of two goals, while freshman Meara McCarthy (Simsbury, Conn.) and sophomore Alex Kutac (Houston, Texas) each scored twice as well to round out the Pacific offense on the day.
The Tigers will be back in action on April 12, when they take on Cal Baptist in Riverside, Calif. at 3:00 p.m. The Tigers have faced Cal Baptist once already this season in a contest where they lost to the Lancers at the Arizona State Invitational by a score of 10-9.
