Stockton, Calif. - Pacific dropped a 14-1 contest to No. 8 California on Tuesday, Apr. 15. Following the loss the Tigers are 8-25 on the season, while Cal moved to 24-9-2.
The eighth ranked Golden Bears plated for runs quickly as the first two batters of the game walked, then Stockton native David Cooper belted his 15th home run of the season over the left-center field wall. The ensuing hitter, Josh Satin, made it back-to-back home runs with a another shot over the left-center field wall.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the second, the Tigers got off to a good start when junior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) doubled to left-center. Oliveira took third on a ground out from senior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), then scored on an RBI ground out by senior Brett Manning (Boulder, Colo.) to make the score 4-1.
Despite several opportunities, the Tigers simply couldn't connect for the crucial hit, leaving 13 runners on base throughout the game.
California also left 12 runners on base, but the Golden Bears notched a single run in the fifth, five in the sixth and two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
California starter Alex Rollin (4-1) earned the victory with seven innings of one-run ball. Rollin allowed six hits and three walks, while striking out five on the night.
Pacific starter Corey Kohnke (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks in one-third of an inning.
Tiger sophomore Matt Fuson (Lodi, Calif.) was 2-for-2 after coming on in a reserve role to lead the Pacific offense.
Pacific returns to action on Friday, Apr. 18 as the Tigers host No. 15 Cal State Fullerton at 6 p.m. in Klein Family Field.
