The Pacific baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to UC Davis in the final game of a three-game Big West Conference baseball series at Dobbins Stadium on Sunday, March 30. Pacific falls to 5-19, 0-3 in Big West play, while UC Davis improves to 17-8 and 3-0 on the year.
Starting off strong, Pacific got the first two batters aboard in the top of the first inning. Junior Joe Oliviera (San Diego, Calif.) led off the game with a double and sophomore Matt Fuson (Lodi, Calif.) walked. The Tigers, however, were unable to score. The Aggies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, getting an RBI single from Evan Hudson. UC Davis added another run in the second after an RBI single from Matt Dempsey to take a 2-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the seventh inning. Junior Mike McKeever (San Diego, Calif.) led off the inning with a walk. Freshman Nick Longmire (San Diego, Calif.) then followed with a home run over the right field wall to tie the game at 2-2.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, on another RBI single by Hudson. With one out in the ninth inning, the Tigers got consecutive singles from freshman Brian Martin (Livermore, Calif.) and Longmire. The Tigers were unable to push across the tying run though as UC Davis picked up the series sweep.
Junior Larry Holscher (McArthur, Calif.) gave up one run in three innings of work, taking the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. Tiger starter Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.) went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
Aggie starting pitcher Trevor Fox went six and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight. Bryan Evans (3-1) picked up the win in relief, going two and a third innings. Andy Suiter got the final out for the Aggies, to pick up his second save of the season.
The Tigers are next in action with a game at Santa Clara on Wednesday, April 2. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
