March 14, 2008

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific freshman Tyler Waldron (Pilot Hill, Calif.) authored a complete game shutout to lead the Pacific baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Minnesota on Friday, Mar. 14.

The win moved the Tigers to 3-12 on the season, while Minnesota fell to 4-6 overall.

Waldron's performance was simply dominant on Friday evening as the right hander recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts. Waldron allowed only three hits, one walk and a hit batter in the outing, facing three battrs over the minimum. Fittingly the final out was a strikeout as Waldron got Derek McCallum swinging, stranding the Golden Gophers final chance to tie the game at second base.

Waldron's command and tenacity only grew as the night went on as the right handers recorded five strikeouts over the final two innings, including three in the ninth.

Pacific scored the only run of the game in the first inning as senior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) singled up the middle to lead off the first. Junior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) sacrificed Ching over to second. With two outs in the inning, junior Mike McKeever (San Diego, Calif.) smoked a double into the left field corner to drive in Ching.

McKeever finished the day with three hits and an RBI to lead the Tigers' offense.

Pacific and Minnesota continue their three game series on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 2 p.m.
