Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team fell to the No. 12 Long Beach State 49ers by a score of 14-7 on Mar. 1 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The loss was the Tigers' fifth straight MPSF loss of the season as they fell to 3-10 on the year and 0-5 in MPSF play, while the 49ers improved to 7-7 overall with the win and are now 2-1 in MPSF action.
In the loss, Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) led the Tigers in scoring with three goals. McConnell scored one goal in each of the last three quarters to keep the Tigers close until the end, while Long Beach State's Dayna Wawrzynski led the 49ers in scoring with four goals to lead her team to victory.
Three other Tigers also found the back of the net in the loss. Freshman Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored twice, including a goal scored in the first period after a penalty, while Alex Kutac (Houston, Texas) and Bethany Quertermous (Humble Texas) each scored once in the contest.
In goal for Pacific was senior Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) who recorded seven saves on the afternoon. Kristen Stragier was the goalkeeper for Long Beach State. Stragier recorded eight saves.
The Tigers will return to Chris Kjeldsen Pool tomorrow, Mar. 2, to take on UC Irvine at 12:00 p.m. in Stockton, Calif..
