Tigers Split Day Two Matches at Seawolf Classic Tournament

Feb. 24, 2008

Rohnert Park, Calif. - With eleven goals from senior Kellie Fletcher (Rosevill, Calif.), the Pacific women's water polo team split a pair of games at the Seawolf Classic Tournament on Feb. 24 in Rohnert Park, Calif. The Tigers started the day by defeating Cal Lutheran by a score of 14-11 and then returned to the pool in the afternoon to fall to Sonoma State 11-10. The Tigers are now 3-9 on the season.

After getting off to a slow start in their opener against Cal Lutheran, the Tigers surged throughout the second and third periods to take the lead and to eventually hold on for the win. Fletcher and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Calif.) led the Tigers in scoring in what turned out to be their third win of the year as they each netted five goals to help secure the victory. Other Tigers scoring in the win were Courtney Boettger (Stockton, Calif.), Jessica Safir (Los Gatos, Calif.), and Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Cailf.). Boetgger scored twice, while Safir and McConnell each scored once.

In the Tigers second game of the day, Fletcher again led all scorers in the contest with six goals brining her total to 11 on the day. Despite her impressive effort however, the Tigers still lost by a goal. The remaining Tiger goals were scored by Boettger, Safir, Tawarahara , and Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who each scored once. The contest marked the second time the two teams have met this season as the Tigers captured a one goal victory against the Seawolves earlier in the year.
