Tigers Drop Two at Day One of Seawolf Splash Tournament

Feb. 23, 2008

Rohnert Park, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team opened up play at the 2008 Seawolf Splash Tournament in Rohnert Park, Calif. on Feb. 23 with losses to UC Santa Cruz and CSU East Bay. The Tigers first lost a close game to Santa Cruz by a score of 8-7 and then returned to the pool in the afternoon to drop their second contest of the day to CSU East Bay 12-7. With the losses, Pacific fell to 2-8 on the year.

Senior Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.) led the Tigers in both matches on the day scoring four times in each contest. In the Tigers' loss to UC Santa Cruz, Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored two more of Pacific's seven goals, while Jessica Safir (Los Gatos, Calif.) scored the seventh. Although the Tigers outscored the Banana Slugs over the course of the third and fourth quarters, the comeback was not enough as UC Santa Cruz earned the one goal victory.

In the second game of the day, the Tigers went into halftime with a single goal lead but could not hold on as they gave up nine second half goals. In addition to Fletcher's four goals in the Tigers' second loss, single goals were scored by Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas), Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii), and Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). CSU East Bay won that game by a score of 12-7
