Pacific falls short to Stanford 4-2

Stockton, Calif. - Sophomore Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) scores two goals in the Tigers' 4-2 loss against Stanford on Sunday, Sept. 2.

The loss drops the Pacific field hockey team to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the NorPac Conference. Stanford moves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference.

McDonough started the scoring on a goal from senior Melody Demel (Fallbrook, Calif.) at the 15:43 mark. The Cardinal responded moments later with a goal to tie the game as Camille Gandhi took a pass from Xanthe Travlos and redirected it into the net.

Stanford began the second half as Marlana Shile scored at the 38:05 minute mark as she knocked the ball in after the ball hit the post putting Stanford at 2-1.

Despite falling behind, Pacific battled on the field to keep scoring. The Tigers hard work paid off when McDonough scored her second goal as she thrashed past the goal keeper out of the box at the 42:10 minute mark.

Stanford had two replies for Pacific including another goal from Gandhi which came during a corner shot. Moments later, Bailey Richardson scored in the last minute of the game for the Cardinal to put them 4-2 over Pacific.

Pacific was outshot by Stanford, 16-6, and seized a 9-3 advantage on corner penalties.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 13 as Pacific battles Vermont in Durham, NH at 4pm ET.
