Box Score

DURHAM, N.H.- The Pacific field hockey team lost 1-0 against the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The loss sets the Tigers at 1-5 on the season, while UNH moved to 4-3. The only goal of the game came from UNH (Kara Napolitano), on a penalty corner with 40 seconds remaining in the first half.

At the half, both teams had taken five shots.

One minute later at the other end of the field, the Tigers reacted to try and pull even on the second corner of the game. After sophomore Katy McDonough's (Ventura, Calif.) hit and junior Erica Nestle's (San Jose, Calif.) stop, junior Ashley Niccum (Simi Valley, Calif.) blasted a low shot through traffic that crashed off the right post.

McDonough and freshman Rachel Taylor (Southampton, N.Y.) led the team with three shots against the Wildcats. McDonough steers the team with 11 shots on the season thus far. Junior Kedibone Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) and junior Sasha Larsen (Vista, Calif.) each challenged the goalie once during the non-conference match.

The Tigers confronted the Wildcats again in the 54th minute on another corner opportunity when Larsen lifted a shot that was turned aside by a UNH player's right arm pad.

After regrouping at the 63:04 minute mark, Nestle at the top of the circle interrupted a Wildcat attempt to clear a slicing ball. Nestle quickly fired a shot towards the cage, but was rejected as UNH kept the one-goal advantage.

Rookie Lauren Woods (Oceanside, Calif.) has started two games and currently has banked 12 saves and accumulated an average of .750 as goalkeeper. She ended the game with five saves, one of which was a penalty stroke.

The Pacific field hockey team returns to the field against Harvard in Cambridge, Mass at 12:00 ET.
