Tigers Suffer Sixth Consecutive Loss, 5-1 to Nevada

April 3, 2007

Box Score

Reno, Nev. - The Pacific Tigers suffered their sixth straight loss of the season as the Tigers fell to Nevada, 5-1, on Tuesday, April 3.

The loss dropped Pacific to 7-23-1 on the season, while Nevada moved to 19-15 overall.

Pacific took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as freshman Josh Powers (Elk Grove, Calif.) laced a one-out single up the middle. Sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) followed with an RBI double into deep left-center field, chasing Powers all the way around the diamond.

In the top of the fourth inning the Tigers had a golden opportunity to add to their lead as Pacific loaded the bases with no outs. Junior Jason Haar (San Diego, Calif.) reached on an error to lead off the inning, a walk to sophomore Kurt Wideman (Fallbrook, Calif.) put runners at first and second. Freshman Mike Walker (Marysville, Calif.) loaded the bases with a short single to right field.

Unfortunately the Tigers failed to push across any runs as juniors John Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) and Greg Murray (El Cerrito, Calif.) were retired on strikes, then Powers lined out to third base to end the inning.

The Tiger offense never seemed to recover as Pacific managed just one hit the rest of the way.

Nevada, meanwhile, got their offense going in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs on three walks, a single and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead.

The Wolf Pack added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and a single run in the bottom of the seventh as Nevada went on to take the contest, 5-1.

Nevada's reliever Jordan Salazar (1-0) earned his first victory of the season by holding the Tigers scoreless on one hit in one inning of work.

Pacific sophomore Erik Hamren (Coto de Caza, Calif.) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on three walks and a hit. Hamren (0-1) did not retire a batter in the outing.

Kody Keroher secured the win for his fourth save of the season as he tossed three innings of scoreless relief.

Oliveira led the Pacific offense with a 1-for-3, one RBI outing.

The Tigers return to the diamond on Thursday, April 5 as Pacific begins a three-game series with the UC Davis Aggies in Stockton, Calif. The series kicks off at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Klein Family Field.
