Fullerton, Calif. - The Pacific Baseball Team fell to the No. 17 Cal State Fullerton Titans,12-1, on Sunday, April 22.
With the loss the Tigers dropped to 10-31-1 on the season and 0-9 in the Big West Conference. Cal State Fullerton, meanwhile, moved to 26-12 overall and 7-2 in Big West play.
For the third consecutive contest the Titans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as the Titans got a two-run home run off the bat of Evan McArthur.
Cal State Fullerton added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Pacific bounced back with a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) led off the Tigers' sixth with a single up the middle. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Oliveira went to third on a fielder's choice from sophomore Zach Chamberlin (San Rafael, Calif.), which forced junior Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) at second. Baum had reached on a one-out walk. With two down and runners at the corners, freshman Mike Walker (Marysville, Calif.) reached on a error by Titan second baseman Corey Jones. The error allowed Oliveira to score.
Unfortunately that was the only offense for Pacific as the Titans put seven more runs on the board in the sixth for the 12-1 win.
Cal State Fullerton starter, Michael Morrison, earned the victory (5-1) as he allowed just one unearned on four hits and four walks in 5.1 innings.
Pacific freshman Hunter Carnevale (Roseville, Calif.) took the loss (2-5) for the Tigers as he allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 27 as the Tigers host Long Beach State in the first of a three-game series with the 49ers at 2 p.m. at Klein Family Field.
