Pacific Falls to No. 8 San Jose State 22-5

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team fell to 5-16 on the season, 0-10 in the MPSF after a 22-5 loss at the hands of No. 8 ranked San Jose State (10-9, 3-4 MPSF) on Saturday, March 31st at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

San Jose State came out of the gates strong, scoring the games first 11 goals to take a commanding lead. Pacific fought back, as junior Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.) scored back to back goals to make the score 11-2 before the Spartans connected on a goal at the buzzer to end the half, giving them a 12-2 lead into intermission.

The Spartans kept working on all cylinders, scoring the first two goals of the third period to take a 14-2 lead before freshman Sarah Harris (Cape Town, South Africa) found the back of the cage on a 6-on-5 opportunity to make the score 14-3.

With the score 18-3 in the fourth period, Fletcher connected on a 6-on-5 goal to make the score 18-4. Following a Spartan goal, Harris scored for the second time on the day to make the score 19-5. San Jose State then scored three unanswered goals to close the contest out at 22-5.

Pacific was led by Fletcher's three goals, while Harris added two.

In goal for the Tigers, starting 'keeper Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) collected five blocks, while freshman goalie Jill Hauck (Pottsville, Penn.) blocked a career high nine shots. With her five blocks, Gray needs just nine more to pass Jamie Hamilton (2000-02) for third place on Pacific's All-Time blocks list. She has totaled 370 blocks so far in her three career, of which two years have been spent in goal.

The Spartans were led by Juliet Moss, who tallied six goals, while Alexis Higlett added two goals and five assists. In the cage Kenda Adama recording six blocks, while Kelly Kennison added two.

Pacific is next in action on April 6th as they host No. 11 Arizona State. Opening sprint is scheduled for 4pm with the location of the game yet to be determined.
