Muncie, Ind. - The No. 9 ranked Pacific men's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision at the hands of the No. 15 ranked Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, March 24th in Muncie, Ind.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-11 on the season, while Ball State improves to 12-9.
The Tigers took the first two games over the home-standing Cardinals, 30-27, 30-20 before falling in the next three 23-30, 24-30, 13-15.
The Tigers were led by junior outside hitter Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland), who posted a team high 21 kills. Freshman Maor Nutkevitch (Ra'anana, Israel) added 15 kills, while senior Matt Cornell (Granada Hills, Calif.) and junior Simon Chen-Byerley (Northfield, Ill.) added 14 and 10 respectively.
Chen Byerley added eight total blocks, including two solos, to lead the Pacific block, while senior Dan Hammer (Glendale, Wisc.) added six blocks. Four Tigers added double digit digs, including the afore mentioned Seppanen and Cornell who had 11 apiece, senior Garrett Morales (Long Beach, Calif.), who added a season-high tying 13, and freshman libero Mark Bauhs (Danville, Calif.) who posted a career-high 11.
The Cardinals were led by Nick Meyer, who was the only Ball State player to reach double figures in kills with 27.
Pacific is next in action on Friday, March 30th as they travel to No. 5 ranked UC Santa Barbara. First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
