The Pacific baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision at San Jose State in the second game of a three-game non-conference baseball series at Municipal Stadium on Saturday, March 17. Pacific falls to 6-16-1 while San Jose State improves to 13-8 on the year.
The Tigers struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but the Spartans struck right back in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Kyle Bellows. The Spartans added two more runs in the third inning and one in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Pacific struck back with a five-run seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead. A three-run home run by sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.), brought the Tigers back to within 5-4. Senior John Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) added a two-run double to give Pacific a one-run advantage.
San Jose State regained the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Marcus McKinney tied the game on a run-scoring groundout. Justin Santich-Hughes drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single.
Greg Shannon (3-0) earned the win for the Spartans, giving up two hits in 2 2-3 innings of relief work. San Jose State starter Spencer Snodgrass surrendered two runs (one earned) over six innings of work, walking three and striking out three.
Senior Curtis Pasma (Madera, Calif.) took the loss (0-3) for the Tigers, giving up three hits and one run in one inning of work. Freshman Hunter Carnevale (Roseville, Calif.) was tagged for nine hits and five runs in 3 1-3 innings of work.
Oliveira, Joines and sophomore Kurt Wideman (Fallbrook, Calif.) each had two hits for the Tigers. Bellows paced the Spartans with three hits.
San Jose State and Pacific conclude the three-game series on Sunday, March 18. First pitch at Klein Family Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
