Tigers Fall to No. 5 Anteaters 14-5

Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo fell in the final game of a three game weekend road swing to No. 5 ranked UC Irvine by the score of 14-5 on Sunday, March 11th in Irvine, Calif.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 5-11 on the season, 0-7 in the MPSF, while the Anteaters improve to 11-6, 2-4 in MPSF action.

UC Irvine scored the games first two goals, having a 2-0 lead with :35 seconds remaining in the first period when freshman Sarah Harris (Cape Town, South Africa) took advantage of a drawn five-meter ejection on Nicole Flacco by converting the five-meter penalty shot to pull the Tigers to within one at 2-1. The Anteaters struck again before the period was over as Angela Briggs converted a 6-on-5 opportunity to make the tally 3-1 after one.

In the second period, UCI again scored the first two goals of the period to make the score 5-1 before Harris again found the back of the cage to make the score 5-2. Following an Anteater goal which made the score 6-2, Harris scored with :13 seconds left in the half to make the halftime deficit for Pacific 6-3.

To start the second half, the Anteaters outscored the Tigers 3-1 in the third period as redshirt junior Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) scored the lone Pacific goal of the period, making the score 9-4 UCI heading into the fourth.

In the final frame, Pacific got a 6-on-5 goal by Harris, her fourth of the day, but allowed five UC Irvine goals, making the final score 14-5.

In the cage for the Tigers, junior Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) tallied 13 blocks.

Pacific is next in action on Wednesday, March 14th as they travel to Honolulu to take on the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine. Opening sprint is scheduled for 4pm Hawai'ian time.
