No. 8 Pacific Falls To No. 12 Long Beach State, 3-0

STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 8 Pacific men's volleyball team dropped to 12-10 overall and 8-8 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a 30-27, 30-24, 30-26 loss to No. 12 Long Beach State (9-9, 6-8 MPSF) on Saturday, Mar. 10, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Sophomore Maor Nutkevitch (Ra'anana, Israel) led the Tigers in kills with 13. Junior Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland) was the only other Tiger in double digits with 12.

For the 49ers, junior Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.) recorded a match high 14 kills. Freshman Dean Bittner (Lakewood, Calif.) added 13 kills, five digs and four blocks.

In game one, Long Beach State jumped out early with five blocks, giving the 49ers a 9-4 lead. Pacific responded from a slow start to tie the game at 16-16. With the game tied 25-25, kills by freshman Dan Alexander (Arcadia, Calif.) and Bittner gave the 49ers a two point advantage, and Long Beach State held on for the 30-27 win.

Game two was tight in the early going. With Long Beach State holding a slim 19-18 lead, the 49ers scored the next four points to go up 23-18 and then win the game 30-24.

In game three, Long Beach State took an early lead. The Tigers responded and took the lead at 15-14 before the 49ers reclaimed control with an 8-3 run. Long Beach State closed out the match with a 30-26 victory.

The Tigers take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
