Las Vegas, Nev. - The Pacific softball team picked up an impressive win to start the 2007 season as the Tigers posted a 9-1 run-rule win over Tulsa to start the Alexis Park Kickoff Tournament.
Pacific got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as the top of the order took care of business in their first at bats of the season. Senior Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Wash.) singled to start the inning and then advanced two bases on wild pitches to setup the first run of the game. Sophomore Briana Santos (Garden Grove, Calif.) took advantage of the RBI opportunity as she singled to left field to plate the run.
The Tigers continued to build on their lead in the third inning as they pushed across four runs, breaking open the game. Three straight hits to start the inning got things rolling for the Tigers as again, Santos came through with a runner in scoring position with a shot to left field to post her second RBI of the game. Sophomore Lauren Weyman (Carlsbad, Calif.) laid down the sacrifice to move the runners to second and third and with two outs, freshman Karie Wilson (Glendale, Ariz.) blasted a shot over the left field wall for her first career collegiate hit.
With a five run lead, the Tigers cruised the rest of the way, adding one more run in the fourth and three in the sixth to cap off the six inning win for the Tigers.
Sophomore Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.) picked up the complete game win for the Tigers as she went six innings, giving up just three hits and one earned run. In addition, Engle tallied four strike outs and walked five.
Tulsa scored one run in the game, a solo home run by Ashlee Lubniewski in the fourth inning. In the circle, Katie Lee suffered the loss as she gave up eight earned runs in 5.2 innings on 11 Tigers hits.
