Los Angeles, Calif. - The No. 13 ranked Pacific men's volleyball team fell to No. 8 UCLA three games to two on Friday, February 9th in Los Angeles, Calif. The game scores were 30-26, 27-30, 28-30, 40-38, 15-12.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 6-6, 4-4 in MPSF play, while the Bruins improve to 6-6, 4-5 in MPSF action.
After falling in game one, the Tigers took command, taking the next two games to lead the match two games to one. Game four was a back and forth affair that saw the Tigers have a match point at 32-31, and fight back from eight UCLA game points before finally falling on the ninth, 40-38.
Game five was a game of runs, as the Tigers scored the first point but lost six of the next seven to trail 7-2. The Tigers then fought back, scoring four of the next five points to pull to within one at 8-7. The game remained a one point Bruin lead at 12-11 before UCLA took three of the final four points to take the victory 15-12.
The Tigers were led by junior Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland), who posted a career high 29 kills in the loss. Senior Andreas Baboulidis (Ruesselsheim, Germany) also added 15 kills for Pacific, while junior Simon Chen-Byerley (Northfield, Ill.) added seven blocks.
UCLA had four players reach double figures in kills, with Steve Klosterman leading the way with 15. Brett Perrine added 10 blocks for the Bruins, who now hold a 26-0 lifetime mark against the Tigers.
Pacific is next in action on Saturday, February 10th as they travel to No. 2 UC Irvine. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
