Honolulu, Hawaii - The Pacific Tigers suffered a 13-1 loss to Hawai'i in the opening game of a three game series on Friday, Feb. 9.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-3 on the season, while Hawaii moved to 5-2.
Pacific fell behind 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning as the Rainbows scored six runs on four hits and two walks. The cap to the inning was a grand slam by Hawai'i's Kris Sanchez.
Down six runs, the Tigers mounted a rally in the top of the fourth as sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) opened the inning with singles up the middle. One out later, freshman Mike Walker (Marysville, Calif.) loaded the bases loaded with a sharp single to center field. Junior Greg Murray (El Cerrito, Calif) got the Tigers on the board with a sacrifice fly, but that was all the Tigers could manage in the fourth inning.
Hawai'i added two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make it an 8-1 game, then Rainbow starter Ian Harrington shut the door on the Pacific offense.
Harrington (2-1) held Pacific to one run on four hits and a walk in seven innings to pick up the win.
Pacific starter, freshman David Rowse (Pleasanton, Calif.) suffered the loss (0-2) as he allowed eight runs on seven hits and four walks in 3.1 innings.
Oliveira led the Tigers offense as he collected two of Pacific's four hits and scored the Tigers' only run.
Pacific and Hawai'i will continue their series on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. PST
