Stockton, Calif. - Behind a 19 hit, 12 run, onslaught, the Pacific baseball team picked up their first win of the season, shutting out the Matadors 12-0 on Sunday, February 4. The win moved the Tigers to 1-2 on the season and dropped the Matadors to 4-2 overall.
Tiger freshman Hunter Carnevale (Roseville, Calif.) allowed just four hits in six scoreless innings of work making his first career start, striking out four. Senior Curtis Pasma (Madera, Calif.) pitched the two scoreless innings for the Tigers, while senior Jake Wild pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Pacific scored a run in the first inning on an RBI ground out by junior Justin Baum (San Diego, Calif.). The Tigers added four runs in the third inning on an RBI single by junior Jason Haar (San Diego, Calif.), a two-run double by sophomore Kurt Wideman (Fallbrook, Calif.) and an RBI single by freshman Josh Powers (Elk Grove, Calif.).
Already leading 8-0, Pacific added two more runs in the seventh inning after back-to-back triples by Haar and freshman Mike Walker (Elk Grove, Calif.). Haar plated Baum, who had singled to lead off the inning, while Walker's triple scored Haar.
The Tigers pounded out 19 hits in the victory, including multiple hit games from six players. Haar had a career-high four hits to pace Pacific, while Walker, Junior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) each added three hits. Walker and Wideman each had three RBI's for the Tigers.
The Tigers host Sacramento State on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Klein Family Field.
