Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - Two unearned runs spoiled a terrific outing by sophomore left-hander Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.) as the Tigers fell to Cal State Northridge, 2-1, on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-2 on the season, while Cal State Northridge moved to 4-1 overall.

The game was a scoreless duel between Centanni and Cal State Northridge's Jimmy Jolicoeur. Both pitchers allowed just two hits through five and a half innings.

In the bottom of the sixth the Tigers broke through with a single run on two hits. With one out in the inning, freshman Josh Powers (Elk Grove, Calif.) laced a single into short left field. Junior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) followed with a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third. The next batter, sophomore Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) lined a fly ball into center field, to plate Powers with a sacrifice fly, giving Pacific a 1-0 lead.

That lead remained in tact until the ninth inning as Centanni cruised through seven innings, allowing only two hits and one walk. Senior Curtis Pasma (Madera, Calif.) tossed a scoreless eighth to send the game to the ninth inning.

The Matadors started the ninth inning as Jorge Andrade Jr. reached on an infield single up the middle. Pinch runner Alex Bardeguez moved to second on a sacrifice. With two outs in the inning, Jason Dabbs reached on a throwing error, allowing Bardeguez to score and tie the game. The next batter, Anthony Reed blasted an RBI double off of the center field wall to plate Dabbs and give the Matadors the lead.

The Tigers had an opportunity in the ninth inning as Oliveira reached on an error and was on third with only one out, but Matador closer Joe Rocchio pitched out of the jam to record his second save of the season.

Senior Jake Wild (Kingsburg, Calif.) suffered the loss (0-1) for the Tigers, while Cal State Northridge reliever Mark Haderlein (1-0) nabbed the win with a third of an inning of scoreless relief.

The Tigers and Matadors will conclude their three game series on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 12 p.m.
