Pacific Falters Against USC, 3-1

Los Angeles, Calif. - The No. 9 Pacific men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at No. 14 USC on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Game scores for the match were: 30-21, 30-21, 20-30, 30-26.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 8-9 on the season and 6-7 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), while USC improved to 6-9 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

Pacific came out sluggish in game one as the opening game, hitting just .091 as a team. The in the first game the Tigers collected 13 kills, but committed 10 errors on 33 swings. USC, by contrast, was just shy of perfect with 15 kills and just one error as the Trojans posted a .636 hitting percentage as USC took game one, 30-21

Both teams drew closer to one another in the second game as the Tigers hit .200, while USC hit at a .345 clip. Pacific, however, hurt themselves with five service errors, helping USC take game two, 30-21.

The Tigers appeared to right the ship in the third game as Pacific forced USC into 12 attacking errors en route to a 30-20 win in game three.

In the fourth and decisive game, the Tigers once again struggled from the floor, hitting just .045 with 12 errors on 45 swings as Pacific dropped the match with a 30-26 loss in game four.

Junior Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland) led the Tigers with 20 kills, however three Pacific attackers finished with a negative hitting percentage for the match.

USC's Juan Figueora finished with a match-high 23 kills.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 28 as Pacific hosts St. Francis at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
