Rohnert Park, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo squad earned a split in two games on the first day of action at the Sonoma State Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Following Saturday's action, the Tigers are 2-6 on the season.
In the first contest of the day, Pacific earned its second victory in three games as the Tigers defeated La Verne, 14-7. The Tigers exploded for seven goals in the first period as the Tiger claimed a dominating 7-1. Pacific extended their lead to 9-2 after two periods and cruised the rest of the way. Freshman Sarah Harris (Cape Town, South Africa) paced the Tigers as she scored a career-high six goals in the contest.
Pacific's second game of the day came against tournament host, Sonoma State. The Seawolves and Tigers battled back and forth in the early going as the two teams entered the second period tied at 4-4. In the second quarter, Sonoma State was able to scratch ahead of the Tigers with five goals in the period to take a 9-7 lead into halftime. Sonoma State was again two goals better than the Tigers in the third period as Pacific entered the final period trailing 13-9.
Although the Tigers held Sonoma State scoreless in the fourth period, it wasn't enough as the Seawolves took the match, 13-11. Five different Tigers finished with five goals in the second game to lead the team.
Pacific returns to the pool on Sunday, Feb. 25 as the Tigers complete action at the Sonoma State Tournament with two additional games. The Tigers will face Monterey Bay at 12 p.m. then conclude the tournament against UC Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.
