Box Score
Stockton, Calif. The Pacific baseball team defeated Nevada in game two of a three game series at Klein Family Field by the score of 3-2 on Saturday, February 17th.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-6 on the season, while the Wolf Pack fell to 4-7.
The Tigers fell behind in the top of the first inning as Nevada turned two walks and two singles into the first run of the ballgame, grabbing a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded and two down in the top of the first, Pacific freshman Hunter Carnevale (Roseville, Calif.) redirected the momentum of the game as he struck out Nevada left fielder, Mike Hale, to end the Wolf Pack threat.
In the bottom of the first, sophomore Joe Oliveira (Ssn Diego, Calif.) led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Oliveira moved to third on a ground ball to the right side by sophomore Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.). One out later, junior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) ripped an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.
Pacific broke out on top in the second inning as sophomore Zach Chamberlin (San Rafael, Calif.) opened the inning with a double into left field. After moving to third on a passed ball, Chamberlin scored on an RBI ground out from sophomore Erik Hamren (Coto de Caza, Calif.).
Hamren added to the Tigers' lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as he launched his first career home run over the left field wall. Hamren's bomb was a solo home run and pushed Pacific's lead to 3-1.
That was all Carnevale would need as he settled down after a rocky first inning to deliver a strong outing for the Tigers. Carnevale (2-1) allowed one run on seven hits and four walks in 6.2 innings for the win.
The bullpen tandem of seniors Curtis Pasma (Madera, Calif.) and Jake Wild (Kingsburg, Calif.) closed the door on the Wolf Pack in the final 2.1 innings. Wild picked up his first save of the season, despite having to pitch through two errors and an unearned run in the ninth inning.
Nevada'a Rod Scurry (0-3) suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk in 4.1 innings.
Three Tigers finished with two hits in the game, led by a 2-for-3 performance from senior Clint Eastman (Pleasanton, Calif.).
The Tigers and Wolf Pack will play the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 18 as Pacific sends freshman David Rowse (Pleasanton, Calif.) to the mound. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
