Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey squad suffered a 2-1 upset loss to Radford in the opening round of the NorPac Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-11 on the season, while Radford moved to 7-13 overall.

The Tigers and Highlanders battle got off to a defensive start as neither team could muster a shot in the opening eight minutes of the game. Pacific created the first opportunity of the contest as senior Elle Busch (San Jose, Calif.) snaked through for the first shot.

Unfortunately Busch's shot was blocked and the score remained deadlocked at 0-0.

Just over a few minutes later the Highlanders created their first scoring chance with a penalty stroke. Radford's Allison Mowry converted the penalty stroke by sending the ball to the left side off the stick of Pacific goalkeeper freshman Lauren Woods (Oceanside, Calif.) and into the goal.

Radford held their 1-0 lead into the second period when the Tigers capitalized on their sixth penalty corner of the game.

Pacific senior Melody Demel (Fallbrook, Calif.) inserted the ball to fellow senior Katie Fixsen (Vista, Calif.). Fixsen quickly slapped a shot towards the goal that was redirected into the net by sophomore Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) with 24:08 remaining in the game.

The Highlanders, however, responded on a penalty corner of their own just a few minutes later. Radford scored their second goal as Mowry took the entry pass from Natalie Bowen. Mowry sent the ball to Emily Jones at the top of the circle. Jones turned and fired the ball into the back of the net.

Despite several chances down the stretch, the Tigers were unable to tie the game.

Pacific outshot Radford 18 to 5 in the game and held a 9 to 3 advantage on penalty corners.

Pacific will now face Appalachian State in the consolation bracket of the NorPac Tournament on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. Radford, meanwhile, plays Stanford in the tournament semifinals at 3 p.m.
