Farmville, Vir.- The Pacific field hockey team earned their second conference win with a 3-0 shutout over Longwood on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Tigers move to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Longwood drops to 5-10 on the season and 1-3 in the NorPac.
The first goal of the game was netted by freshman Rachel Taylor (Southampton, N.Y.) in the 26th minute. Taylor aimed her shot off a penalty corner that slipped through the defense the put the Tigers ahead 1-0.
At the halftime, Longwood had a 7-5 penalty corner advantage. The Lancers were lead by Avanell Schmitz who had eight saves.
However, the Tigers eliminated any chance of a comeback for their opponent as they outshot the Lancers 16-9 for the game.
The Tigers' midfielder, Kim Keyawa (Chico, Calif) netted the second goal of the game as she directed a quick pass from Kedibone Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) and hit it behind the goal keeper at the 37:53 minute mark.
Pacific sealed the deal when Leubane scored the final goal of the game at the 55:19 minute mark as she dribbled around the circle and cracked the ball into the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Woods (Oceanside, Calif.) had four saves in the shutout.
The Tigers return to action Oct. 14, as they battle Wake Forest in Stanford, Calif. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. PT.
