No. 14 Pacific Finishes in Sixth Place at UCSB Elephant Bar Tournament

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The No. 14 ranked Pacific men's volleyball team fell to 1-2 on the season with a 3-0 loss to No. 10 Long Beach State in the sixth place game at the UCSB Elephant Bar Tournament.

The game scores were 30-26, 30-28, 30-25 in favor of the 49ers, who improve to 2-1 on the season.

Trailing 23-16 in game one, Pacific rallied with six straight points to close the game to 23-22. The 49ers responded, scoring seven of the next ten points to close out the game. In game two, the Tigers led most of the way until Long Beach State scored the final four points of the game to win it 30-28. Game three saw the 49ers control the action until a late Pacific rally tied the game 23-23. Following a Long Beach timeout, the 49ers were able to score the next three points before eventually taking the game 30-25.

The Tigers were led by senior Matt Cornell (Granada Hills, Calif.) who tallied 15 kills on 25 swings with 7 errors to post a .320 hitting percentage. Cornell also added a solo block and three block assists on the evening. Fellow senior Andreas Baboulidis (Ruesselsheim, Germany) connected on 11 kills, while senior Garrett Morales (Long Beach, Calif.) contributed 42 assists.

Pacific will be back in action on Friday, January 12th as they host UC Santa Barbara in their MPSF opener. First serve is scheduled for 7p.m. from the Alex G. Spanos Center.
