Stanford, Calif. - The No. 14 ranked Pacific men's volleyball team defeated Stanford 3-1 on Tuesday, January 30th. The game scores for the match were 28-30, 30-23, 30-16, 30-25.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 4-5, 2-3 in MPSF play, while Stanford falls to 0-10 and 0-5 in the MPSF.
The Tigers got off to a sluggish start in game one, hitting just .091 in falling 30-28 to Stanford. The Tigers were able to bounce back quickly in game two as they posted the first eight points of the game to take a lead they would never relinquish, while hitting a match high .417.
The momentum continued in game three for the Tigers, as they forced the Cardinal to a -.152 hitting percentage while securing 10 of the games final 11 points to win 30-16. Game four saw Stanford fight back to take an early lead, only to have momentum shift back to the Tigers to enable them to wrap up the match in four games.
The Tigers recorded 20.5 total team blocks, which including a career high 11 by senior Dan Hammer (Glendale, Wisc.) and a career high nine by senior Matt Cornell (Granada Hills, Calif.).
Cornell also tied for team high honors with junior Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland) in kills with 14, while Hammer added eight while hitting .636.
Stanford was led by Matt Ceran with 19 kills and Evan Romero with 17.
The Tigers are next in action as they take on UC San Diego on Friday, February 2nd in MPSF play.
