Tigers Shutout Saint Louis, Win 4-0

Muncie, Ind. - Led by outstanding defense, the Pacific field hockey team defeated Saint Louis 4-0 on Friday, Sept. 8 in Muncie Ind. With the win the Tigers improved to 5-2 on the year, while Saint Louis fell to 2-2.

In the first half, Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored two goals within five minutes of each other to give the Tigers an early lead. Campos' first goal came 19:57 into the game and her second was scored exactly four minutes later on an assist from freshman Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) to put the Tigers up two.

In the second half, Melody Demel (Fallbrook, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season by taking advantage of a loose ball in front of the goal to extend the Tigers lead to three. Then, to cap off the day, Campos scored her third goal of the game on a breakaway down the left side of the field.

In addition to shutting out the Billikens, the Tigers defense also held Saint Louis to zero shots in Friday's contest. The 4-0 victory was the Tigers second shut out of the year.

Pacific will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 10 when they take on No. 6 Ohio St. in Columbus, Ohio at 9:00 AM.
