Stanford, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team came from behind to beat Stanford in a non-conference game 3-2, on Saturday, Sept. 30. With the win Pacific improved to 6-5 on the season, while Stanford fell to 4-8.
Senior Marissa Atilano (Escondido, Calif.) got the Tigers off to an early start by scoring the first goal of the game only 1:29 into the first period on an assist from senior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico). Stanford's Juila Drewes tied the game up six minutes later and the teams ended the half tied 1-1.
In the second period Stanford's Aska Sturdevan netted a goal on a penalty corner to give Stanford a 2-1 lead. However, two minutes later, junior Melody Demel (Fallbrook, Calif.) answered back with a goal for Pacific to tie the game back up at 2-2. From there the Tigers would never look back.
With 5:18 left to play, Vianney Campos netted her fifth game winning goal of the season to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory. Entering this week Campos has scored the third most goals in the country. She now has 16 goals on the year, which is a new school record.
The Tigers will be back in action on Oct. 5, when they take on Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia at 6:00 P.M.
