Stanford, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team lost a 5-1 contest to No. 2 Wake Forest on Sunday, September 3.
The Demon Deacons got off to a fast start as they led 4-0 at the end of the first half. Tracey Scott scored the first goal of the contest only 3:40 into the game, while her teammate Michelle Kasold was also quick to score, adding another goal less than five minutes later. Melissa Martin and Lauren Crandall also scored in the first half for Wake Forest.
In the second half, the Tigers and the Demon Deacons would each score a goal a piece.
Wake Forest's Chelsea Cipriani was able to score first on a penalty corner set up by Michelle Kasold and Jamie Whitten.
Later, with two minutes left to play, freshman Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) redirected a shot by Jennifer Chaney (Campbell, Calif.) into the goal to put the Tigers on the board for a final score of 5-1.
McDonough's goal was not only the first of her collegiate career, but it was also the first goal scored against the Demon Deacons in their first four contests this year.
The 5-1 loss dropped the Tigers to 3-2 on the season, while Wake Forest moved to 4-0.
Pacific will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 7 as the Tigers will take on Ball State in Muncie, Indiana.
