Pacific wins close contest over New Hampshire, 1-0

Box Score

Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team defeated New Hampshire, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept.2 to post their first shutout of the year.

With the win the Tigers moved to 3-1 on the season, while New Hampshire fell to 0-2.

Although the Tigers took 12 shots in the first half while holding their opponents to only three, they were unable to capitalize early and both teams were held scoreless until late in the game.

The 0-0 tie was eventually broken with 8:47 seconds left though, when Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored her seventh goal of the season on an assist from freshman Katie McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) The assist was McDonough's second on the year as the goal was set up on a nice passing sequence between McDonough and Campos down the right side of the field.

That goal turned out to be all that the Tigers defense would need as Pacific limited the Wildcats to eight shots in the contest. Junior goalie Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.) collected her first victory of the season with four saves.

Sophomore Erin Harness (Carmel Valley, Calif.) also had a key defensive save in the game as she stopped a breakaway offensive threat by New Hampshire's Leah Boody after the Wildcat slipped past Niles.

Pacific will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 3 as the Tigers take on No. 2 Wake Forest in Stanford, Calif. at 1 p.m.
