Pacific pushes No. 15 Cal to the limit, but falls 3-2

Stockton, Calif. - Despite two second half goals and a record setting performance by Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico), the Tigers fell to No. 15 Cal at Brookside Field, on Saturday, Sept. 16, 3-2.

With the loss, Pacific fell to 5-4 on the season, while the Bears advanced to 6-2.

Cal jumped out to an early lead in the game by scoring the only two goals of the first half on penalty corners. Valentina Godfrid netted the first goal for the Bears on a penalty corner 13:19 in to the contest. Twelve minutes later, Godfrid assisted Ashley Glosz on a goal that put Cal up by two at the break.

In the second half, Campos broke her own school records for goals and points in a season by scoring her fourteenth and fifteenth goals on the year. Vianney's first goal came only seven minutes into the period on a penalty corner set up by juniors Melody Demel (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Katie Fixsen (Vista, Calif.).

Cal responded quickly by scoring less than five minutes later when Christina McGrath netted a shot on a penalty corner putting the Bears back up by two at 3-1.

Campos' second goal of the game came on a breakaway down the center of the field to pull the Tigers within one at 3-2 with 15:45 remaining in the game. Although it was not enough to win the game, it did allow Campos to break her own school records of 14 goals and 31 points in a season. Vianney now has 15 goals and 32 points on the year with eight regular season games to play.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, September 21 when they will play their first NorPac conference game of the year against Stanford at Brookside Field in Stockton, Calif. The game will start at 3:00 pm.
