Tigers Upset of No. 6 Ohio State Falls Short, 6-2

Sept. 10, 2006

Box Score

Columbus, Ohio - The Pacific field hockey team's winning streak came to an end today as the Tigers fell to No. 6 Ohio St. 6-2 in Columbus, Ohio earlier this morning. With the loss the Tigers moved to 5-3 on the season, while the Buckeyes advanced to a perfect 4-0.

In the game, senior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored two unassisted goals for the Tigers to extend her season total to 13. Campos has scored at least one goal in six of the Tigers eight contests this year, including four multiple goal games and four contests where she scored the game winner.

On Sunday however, the No. 6 rated Buckeyes proved to be too much for the Tigers as they were outlasted 6-2. Before Campos' first goal of the game, Ohio State's Yesenia Luces and Jamie Gofgosky each scored a goal a piece to put the Buckeyes up by two. Then, after Campos' flicked her first goal of the game over the keepers head, Curlyne Wynn scored another goal for Ohio St. to put them up by two at halftime.

In the second half, Campos and the Tigers struggled to get back into the game early when Vianney scored less than four minutes into the period to pull the Tigers within one. However, Ohio State's Michaela O'Malley later added two goals and her teammate Linda Haussener netted another to give the Buckeye's the 6-2 victory.

Despite today's loss the Tigers are still off to one of the best starts in school history. Pacific's only losses thus far have come to No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 Wake Forest, and now No. 6 Ohio State.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16 as they come home to take on their rival Cal at Brookside Field in Stockton, Calif. The game will start at 1:00 PM.
