Tigers Drop Game Two to the Anteaters 6-3

Irvine, Calif. The Pacific Tigers fell in game two of a three game series to UC Irvine by the score of 6-3 in a game held on May 13th at Anteater Ballpark. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 25-22, 5-12 in Big West Conference play, while the Anteaters improve to 32-17, 7-7 in Big West Conference action.

Pacific scored first in the top of the second as senior Ramon Glasgow (Stockton, Calif.) singled home senior Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.), who had stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, to make the score 1-0. UC Irvine struck back in the bottom half of the inning as first baseman Jaime Martinez connected on his second home run of the series, a solo shot to left center to tie the game at 1-1. The Anteaters added another run in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Lowenstein to make the score 2-1.

The Anteaters added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Chad Lundahl and added one in the sixth as Zach Robinson hit a single to left field that got past the Tigers defense to score an unearned run.

With the score 4-1 in the top of the seventh, sophomore John Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) hit a ground ball to short that scored senior Bob Saunders (Oakland, Calif.) to pull the Tigers to within two at 4-2 on Joines' first RBI of the season.

Then in the eighth, sophomore Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was hit by a pitch by Anteater reliever Blair Erickson with the bases loaded and no outs, scoring senior Matt Berezay (Manteca, Calif.) and making the score 4-3. The Tigers missed a golden opportunity to continue the bases loaded no-out rally after a strike out and double play retired the side in the inning.

UC Irvine went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 6-3.

Freshman hurler Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.) pitched seven and two-thirds innings, and picked up the loss after surrendering six runs on 12 hits, including five earned runs. Glenn Swanson recorded his eighth win of the season for the Anteaters, while Blair Erickson picked up save number 12.

The two teams will close out the series on Sunday, May 14th at Anteater Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 1pm.
