Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers fell to the UC Irvine Anteaters by the score of 13-6 . With the loss, the Tigers fall to 25-21, 5-11 in Big West play, while the Anteaters improve to 31-17, 6-7 in the Big West.
UC Irvine scored three runs in the bottom of the third off of Pacific Starter Ty'Relle Harris (Fairfield, Calif.) as Anteater DH Brock Bardeen recorded an RBI double, followed by a single by right fielder Danny McCarthy that scored two runs.
The Anteaters struck for six runs in the bottom of the fourth, as UC Irvine took advantage of four walks, five wild pitches, a hit batsmen and a balk in the inning by the Tigers. With a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Jaime Martinez hit a lead off solo home run to extend the Anteater lead to 10.
Pacific got on the scoreboard as catcher Will Brindza (Sherwood, Ore.) singled home second basemen Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and third basemen Bob Saunders (Oakland, Calif.), who each singled in the inning, to make the score 10-2
UC Irvine added single runs in the sixth and seventh, followed by a two run eight inning to take a 13-2 lead into the ninth.
Sophomore Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) then connected on a Grand Slam home run in the top of the ninth, his ninth homer of the year to make the final score of 13-6.
Justin Cassel picked up the win for the Anteaters, improving to 6-7 on the season, while Harris picked up the loss and is now 4-4 on the season.
The two teams will meet tomorrow at Anteater Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 1pm.
