Pacific Falls to No. 9 UC Irvine 18-5

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team fell to No. 9 UC Irvine by the score of 18-5 in MPSF action, contested on Sunday, April 9 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-18, 0-10 in MPSF play, while the Anteaters improve to 16-11, 5-6 in MPSF play.

The Anteaters got off to a hot start taking a 7-0 midway through the second period before the Tigers fired back with goals from sophomore Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.) and senior Julia Snyder to make the score 7-2. Irvine added two more goals before Snyder scored her second of the game with :21 seconds left to make the score 9-3. The Anteaters put one more on the board as Sarah Frost scored one of her game high four goals as the halftime horn sounded, giving Irvine a 10-3 lead.

The second half began with the two teams trading off two goals apiece, with Snyder and sophomore Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) scoring for Pacific and Jackie Prine and Kelsey Haroldson tallying goals for Irvine. With the score 12-5 late in the third period, the Anteaters went on to score three more in the third period and added three additional scores in the fourth to make the final 18-5.

Along with her three goals, Snyder added a steal and four kick-outs drawn, while junior Tina Tkalcevic (Mountain View, Calif.) and Fletcher added two assists apiece.

For the Anteaters, Frost added three assists to go along with her four goals, while Robyn Kaake and Gianna Rossi each added three goals apiece.

Pacific is next in action on Friday, April 14 as they travel to Los Angeles to take on UCLA in MPSF action. Opening sprint is scheduled for 1pm.
