Box Score

Stockton, Calif. The Pacific baseball team fell to No. 1 Cal State Fullerton 8-1 in game one of a three game set from Klein Family Field on Friday, April 21. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 22-14, 3-4 in the Big West, while the Titans improved to 29-10 on the season, 6-1 in Big West action.

After a strong start in the first inning by starting pitcher, senior Luke Massetti (Modesto, Calif.), the Tigers' starter got tagged for a pair of runs in the second inning. Both runs came with one out left in the inning as the Titans produced four consecutive two-out hits, finishing the inning with five hits.

Down two, the Tigers showed some pop in their bats in the fourth inning as senior Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.) took the second pitch he saw over the right field wall, hitting a line drive solo home run to get the Tigers on the board. The home run was Jackson's first of the 2006 campaign and second of his career.

Despite closing the gap to just one run and getting to Cal State Fullerton's starter, Wes Roemer, the Tigers would not get any closer as Roemer proceeded to throw a complete game three hitter to shut down the Tigers. In addition to the pitching, the Titans' offense produced 14 hits and eight runs in the game, breaking the contest open in the sixth inning as it scored three runs. The initial damage in the inning came on a solo shot to dead center field by Danny Dorn, as the Titan's center fielder took a 2-2 pitch over the 395 marking on the wall.

The Titans added two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, the last run of the game coming off of relief pitcher, junior Jake Wild (Kingsburg, Calif.).

On the mound, Massetti went 7.0 innings, relinquishing 12 hits and seven earned runs, tying his season high for runs allowed. For the Titans, Roemer threw 9.0 innings as he gave up three hits and one run, striking out eight. Neither pitching staff issued a free pass in the contest.

The Tigers and Titans will pick it up again tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, as they play the second of three at Klein Family Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
