Tigers Lose To Second Ranked BYU, 3-0

Provo, Utah - The Pacific men's volleyball team fell 30-28, 30-25 and 30-23 to the BYU Cougars, Friday, March 31st in the first of two games in Utah. The Tigers drop to 7-16 overall with the conference loss and 5-12 this year in the MPSF.

Pekka Seppanen and Matt Cornell recorded 10 kills each for the Tigers but the Cougars defeated Pacific for the first time since March of 2005 when BYU claimed the first of back-to-back games in Stockton.

The Tigers battled point-for-point in the first game and the Cougars narrowly slipped by, winning 30-28. In the second game the Tigers kept it close but eventually surrendered too many points down the stretch, allowing the home team to take a 2-0 set lead. In the third and final game the Tigers stayed within striking distance the entire set but BYU prevailed 30-23, pulling away down the stretch.

Mitchel Hazelett conducted the Tiger offence once again, getting 30 assists on the night. Garrett Morales led the Pacific with seven digs on the night and block leader Simon Chen-Byerley had six blocks.

Victor Batista led the Cougars with 15 kills on the night as BYU also received help from Yosleyder Cala (13) and Russell Holmes who had 12 kills. The win elevates BYU to 17-4 on the season.

The Tigers take on BYU again tomorrow night, closing out their weekend in Utah with another meeting with the Cougars at 7:00 pm.
