San Luis Obispo, Calif. - After restarting Friday night's Big West opener, the Pacific Tigers' baseball team outlasted Cal Poly, 11-9, on Saturday, Apr. 1

With the win, the Tigers moved to 17-8 on the season and 1-0 in the Big West Conference, while Cal Poly fell to 16-14 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The first two plus innings of this game were played on Friday, Mar. 31, but rain forced the two teams to complete the game on Saturday, Apr. 1.

Before the rain came on Friday night, The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning on two hits and two walks. Sophomore Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the game off with a single up the middle. Back-to-back walks to sophomore Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) and senior Matt Berezay (Manteca, Calif.) loaded the bases with no one out. Senior Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.) drove in the first Pacific run with a fielder's choice to second base. Senior Ramon Glasgow (Stockton, Calif.) followed with a single up the middle, plating Baum to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Cal Poly answered with a run on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers escaped further damage as senior Luke Massetti (Modesto, Calif.) stabbed a shot up the middle and started a 1-6-3 double play as he threw to freshman Alex Zanini (Stockton, Calif.).

Following a scoreless second, the Tigers scored five runs on four hits, two walks and a Cal Poly error, before the rain hit. Baum started the rally with a leadoff double to right-center. After Berezay drew his second walk of the game, Jackson placed a perfect sacrifice bunt down the third base line. An errant throw by Cal Poly's Josh Lansford, allowed Baum to score, sent Berezay to third and allowed Jackson to reach second base safely. The next batter, Glasgow, drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore Brett Manning (Boulder, Colo.) followed with an RBI single to right, making it a 4-1 game. Senior John Devany (Danville, Calif.) delivered a two-run single down the left field line to bring home Jackson and Glasgow, then Zanini ripped a run-scoring double to make it 7-1. The game was halted with Devany at third and Zanini at second.

When play resumed on Saturday afternoon, Pacific tacked on two more runs in the top of the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Ching and a sacrifice fly by Baum to make it a 9-1 contest.

Cal Poly chipped away at Pacific's 9-1 lead with three runs in the fifth inning, but Pacific responded in the top of the seventh as Baum hit his sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast, over the center field wall. Baum's homer, proved to be the game winner as Cal Poly scored five runs in the final three innings.

Paciifc starter Luke Massetti (Modesto, Calif.) picked up the victory as over the two-day game, he allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings.

Tigers' senior Eric Stolp (Oakhurst, Calif.) picked up his team-leading fourth save of the season, as he recorded the final two outs of the game.
