Tigers just miss chance to knock off No. 12 Oregon State, fall 6-4

Stockton, Calif. - Three errors in the ninth inning cost the Pacific baseball team a chance to upset No. 12 Oregon State as the Tigers fell, 6-4, on Tuesday, Mar. 28.

The loss dropped Pacific to 16-8 on the season, while Oregon State moved to 16-7 overall.

Solo home runs in the bottom of the first and second inning put the Tigers out in front early as seniors Matt Berezay (Manteca, Calif.) and John Devany (Danville, Calif.) went deep. Berezay's blast in the first inning was hit seventh of the season, while Devany hit his first collegiate home run in the second.

The Tigers added two runs in the bottom of the third as sophomore Brett Manning (Boulder, Colo.) stroked a bases loaded single through the left side to drive in sophomore Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) and senior Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.), who each reached on a fielder's choice.

Oregon State scored on run in fourth on a solo home run by Cole Gillespie, then added another run in the seventh to pull within two runs at 4-2.

The Beavers, then scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning, capitalizing on three Pacific errors and two hits.

Pacific senior Eric Stolp (Oakhurst, Calif.) suffered the loss as he allowed four runs (one earned) in one inning of relief. The loss dropped Stolp to 2-1 on the season.

Oregon State's Joe Paterson (1-0) picked up the win as he tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Pacific will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 31 as the Tigers begin conference play at 6 p.m. against the Cal Poly Mustangs in San Luis Obispo.
