Berkeley, Calif. -
The Pacific baseball team dropped at 3-1 decision at California on Friday, Mar. 17. With the loss the Tigers fell to 11-7 on the season, while Cal improved to 11-8.
Cal starter Brandon Morrow held the Tigers to just one run in 8.1 innings of work, but left the game after the Tigers pushed a run across in the ninth inning.
The Tigers loan run came on a sacrifice fly by senior John DeVany (Danville, Calif.) in the top of the ninth after senior Ramon Glasgow (Stockton, Calif.) doubled and sophomore Brett Manning (Boulder, Col.) walked. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch. After the sacrifice fly, the Tigers loaded the bases with a pair of walks, but the Tigers could not push any more runs across.
Morrow struck out 10 in moving to 4-0 on the year. Tiger starting pitcher Luke Massetti (Modesto, Calif.) pitched a complete game, yielding just five hits in eight innings. His record dropped to 2-2. Massetti held the Bears scoreless for the first five innings, then allowed two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 18 as Pacific hosts Cal at Stockton Ballpark. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
