Stockton, Calif. The Pacific women's water polo team fell to No. 18 Cal State Northridge by the score of 12-3, on Saturday, March 11 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. With the loss, the Tigers move to 0-11 on the season, 0-7 in MPSF play, while the Matadors pick up their first MPSF victory, running their record to 6-10, 1-6 in MPSF play.
After one period of play, Pacific held a 2-1 advantage behind early goals from senior Julia Snyder (Fresno, Calif.) and sophomore Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada). Northridge fired back in the second period, scoring six goals, as Matador two-meter Allison Brookes tallied four goals in the period, which then gave Northridge a 7-2 halftime advantage.
Northridge kept pace, scoring five more second half goals, which gave them 11 unanswered scores before Gray tallied her second goal of the game to give the final outcome of 12-3.
Defensively for Pacific, freshman goalie Sara Mirels (Haleiwa, Hawaii) tallied three goalie blocks and three steals, while her counterpart in goal, Graziella Caredda, tallied three goalie blocks and two steals for the Matadors.
Snyder, the Tigers leading scorer on the season, added a steal and three drawn ejections, while sophomore Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.) added two assists and two drawn ejections.
Brooks finished the game with six goals to pace CSUN.
Both teams endured non-ideal polo conditions, as the gametime temperature was just 47 degrees, with the wind chill at 44 degrees.
Pacific returns to action as they head to Sonoma State on March 28th to play a round-robin mini tournament with Sonoma State and Brown.
