Stockton, Calif. - Outstanding performances from freshman Ty'Relle Harris (Fairfield, Calif.) and junior Curtis Pasma (Madera, Calif.) led Pacific to a 2-1 victory over BYU on Thursday, Feb. 9.
With the win, Pacific moved to 3-1 on the season, while BYU fell to 0-1.
Harris scattered three hits and four walks over five innings, striking out five.
Pacific got all the offense they would need in the fourth inning as senior Ramon Glasgow (Stockton, Calif.) led off the inning with a double to right. After moving to third on a groundout, senior Jake Ross (Friday Harbor, Wash.) drove Glasgow in with an RBI single to left field. Ross went to second on a groundout, then senior Dale Hall (Wenatchee, Wash.) was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Sophomore Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) followed with an RBI single up the middle to plate Ross and make it a 2-0 contest.
BYU scratched across a run in the fifth, but Harris stranded the tying run at third.
The Cougars loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Pasma struck out leftfielder Jeff Heistand for the second out, then got Casey Nelson to fly out to center to end the inning.
Pasma allowed two hits and one walk in 2.2 innings of relief for his first save of the season.
Pacific seniors Matt Berezay (Manteca, Calif.) and Will Brindza (Sherwood, Ore.) led the Tigers with two hits in the game.
The Tigers and Cougars will continue their three-game series on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. in Stockton Ballpark.
