Tigers Handle Stanford In Four Games

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's volleyball team defeated Stanford in four games Friday, February 3 at the Spanos Center. The Tigers took the first two games, 30-25 and 30-22; falling 23-30 in the third and finishing off Stanford in game four, 30-23.

The Tigers, playing the Cardinal for the fourth time in less than four months and for the second time this season jumped off to a quick start in the first set, running out to a 9-2 lead early on. Behind sophomore Simon Chen-Byerley's serving, Pacific accumulated a 9-1 lead and never looked back through the first two games.

The Tigers ended game one with a five point victory as senior Brian Adamson had six first-set kills for the team. Game two was much of the same with Pacific getting leads of seven and eight at various points in the game before putting away Stanford for good at 30-22.

The Cardinal jumped back and regained momentum in the third set, stealing a game from Pacific 30-23 as Stanford senior Ben Ruddy worked his way towards a team-high 13 kills. The Tigers righted the ship in game four and dealt the Cardinal their third loss of the night, 30-23 as Adamson ended with 21 kills. Sophomore Pekka Seppanen contributed 17 kills and junior Andreas Baboulidis added 15.

Pacific was buoyed by 15 service aces, six of them coming from Baboulidis and freshman Joe Forbes led the Tigers with six blocks on the night.

With the win the Tigers move to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the MPSF while the Cardinal falls to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Tigers will be back in action as they travel to Palo Alto for a rematch with Stanford; Wednesday, February 8.
