Stockton, Calif. The Pacific women's water polo team fell to No. 1 ranked USC by the score of 19-2 on Saturday, February 18th at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-3 on the season, 0-3 in MPSF play, while USC improves to 8-0, 2-0 in MPSF action.
Sophomore Jocelyn Gray (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) got the Tigers on the scoreboard in the second period, capitalizing on a beautiful post entry feed from Pacific's leading goal scoring, fellow sophomore Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.), to make the score 7-1. The goal was the first career goal for Gray, who started all 33 games at goalie last year for Pacific.
Pacific's other goal came at the start of the third period as senior Julia Snyder (Fresno, Calif.) drew a four meter ejection from USC's Veronika Bartunkova, and capitalized on the attempt to make the score 12-2.
Freshman goalie Sara Mirels (Haleiwa, Hawaii) recorded five blocks for the Tigers defensively, while Snyder recorded three steals.
The Women of Troy were led by the duo of Bartunkova and Jordan Anae, who had four goals each. Defensively, Michele Stein had six steals for the Trojans, and goalie Whitney Morgan had six blocks.
The Tigers are next in action Saturday February 25th as they travel to the Redlands Tournament, before a scheduled match against Cal State San Bernadino on February 26th.
